Pressure Systems Awareness training from HSE

Pressure Systems Awareness training

From tyre inflators through refrigerators to full blown industrial processes, pressure systems have become indispensable to industry.

On Thursday 7 March 2019, HSE will run an informative and experiential 1-day course 'Pressure Systems Awareness' at its laboratory near Buxton, Derbyshire.

The course aims to raise awareness of the hazards associated with pressure systems and covers the relevant regulatory framework.

You'll have the unique opportunity to learn from real life case studies and forensic investigations into pressure systems failures, providing a first hand perspective of what can go wrong and why.

On completion of this course you will be able to identify pressure systems in the workplace and understand which legal requirements apply to this equipment.

You'll also develop a firm understanding of the nature and significance of common risks associated with pressure systems, who has duties under the regulations, and current risk mitigation strategies.

LOPA Training from HSE

Get the lowdown on LOPA

Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) is a risk assessment method  to determine and demonstrate the ability of safeguards to protect against identified hazard scenarios and to meet predetermined risk based criteria.

HSE is to run a 2 day course:
'Layers of Protection Analysis: Practical Application and Pitfalls (LOPA)' at its laboratory near Buxton, Derbyshire on 19-20 March 2019.

It will be presented by Dr Colin Chambers CEng MIET, a member of the Process Safety Leadership Group (PSLG) that developed the PSLG LOPA guidance. Dr Chambers was part of the CA team charged with assessing post-Buncefield LOPA studies.

This course will draw on the PSLG LOPA guidance, explain its relevance to LOPA assessment in general, and highlight pitfalls identified during the assessment of a large number of LOPA studies from the petrochemical industry.

'LOPA: Practical Applications and Pitfalls' is aimed at engineers, managers and safety professionals who have a basic knowledge of risk assessment who want to gain an understanding of the LOPA method, its application and the pitfalls commonly associated with this type of analysis.

Stress: From Intervention to Prevention

Stress: from Intervention to Prevention – Improving Your Approach to Tackling Work-related Stress

Is your organisation doing enough to tackle work-related stress and mental ill health?

Join us for a one-day event, to reflect upon, re-evaluate and refine your current approach, which focuses on putting in place preventive measures that avoid harm and demonstrates the importance of a holistic approach that can include support initiatives such as mental health first aid, mindfulness and resilience training.

Tackling workplace stress is an important business topic, with many organisations realising that good mental health is as important as good physical health.

Work-related stress accounts for 57% of all working days lost due to ill health (equivalent to 15.4 million days lost to stress), so many pioneering organisations are incorporating the topic within their wellbeing initiatives, helping to raise awareness of the issues, break down stigma and protect their people.

We'll also bring you up to speed with the latest thinking from HSE specialist inspectors who will explain how the enforcement approach is evolving.
