The course aims to raise awareness of the hazards associated with pressure systems and covers the relevant regulatory framework. HSE is to run a 2 day course: 'Layers of Protection Analysis: Practical Application and Pitfalls (LOPA)' at its laboratory near Buxton, Derbyshire on 19-20 March 2019. It will be presented by Dr Colin Chambers CEng MIET, a member of the Process Safety Leadership Group (PSLG) that developed the PSLG LOPA guidance. Dr Chambers was part of the CA team charged with assessing post-Buncefield LOPA studies. This course will draw on the PSLG LOPA guidance, explain its relevance to LOPA assessment in general, and highlight pitfalls identified during the assessment of a large number of LOPA studies from the petrochemical industry. 'LOPA: Practical Applications and Pitfalls' is aimed at engineers, managers and safety professionals who have a basic knowledge of risk assessment who want to gain an understanding of the LOPA method, its application and the pitfalls commonly associated with this type of analysis. Some processes create substances. These could cause harm to employees, contractors and other people. COSHH is the law that requires employers to control substances that are hazardous to health.
