Hazardous Area Classification for Gases and Liquids The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) require the identification and classification of areas where accidental releases of dangerous substances could occur. Within classified areas sources of ignition should be controlled. HSE is running a 1 day course on Hazardous Area Classification for Gases and Liquids at its Science and Research Centre in Buxton, Derbyshire on Tuesday 30 July. The course equips delegates to carry out hazardous area classification in accordance with commonly used standards, or to act as an intelligent customer when contracting others to do this. The course is suitable for anyone required to conduct hazardous area classification as part of a DSEAR assessment or who needs a detailed understanding of the classification process. | . COMAH Compliance for Lower Tier Establishments The Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations 2015 (COMAH) aim to prevent and mitigate the effects of major accidents involving dangerous substances that could seriously harm people and/or the environment. Those establishments using or storing quantities of harmful substances that exceed the lower of the thresholds specified by COMAH are known as Lower Tier Establishments. On Tuesday 16 July 2019, HSE is running a 1 day course on COMAH Compliance for Lower Tier Establishments at its Science and Research Centre near Buxton, Derbyshire. Designed for managers/supervisors of new lower tier COMAH establishments or anyone wanting to refresh their understanding of COMAH, this course identifies the COMAH duties for Lower Tier establishments and what needs to be done to comply with them. It also explains the duties that fall to the Competent Authority (CA) and Local Government.

This course explains the duties that DSEAR places on employers and the actions needed for compliance. It focuses on risk assessment and applying controls to minimise or mitigate them. DSEAR - Gases and Liquids is aimed at managers and supervisors of process plant and operations, where dangerous substances are used or stored, or safety specialists who need to understand how to manage the risks from dangerous substances within the DSEAR framework.
| | . DSEAR – Controlling Dust Explosion Risks DSEAR regulates the presence and use of dangerous substances in the workplace. These substances include flammable solids in the form of a finely divided dust which, if dispersed in the air, could lead to a serious fire explosion. Flammable dusts pose unique risks that differ from those posed by flammable gases and liquids. On Thursday 01 August 2019, HSE will run a 1 day training course on DSEAR: Controlling Dust Explosion Risks at its Science and Research Centre near Buxton, Derbyshire. This course provides advice on how to understand the hazards from flammable dusts and how the risks from storing and using these dusts can be managed so as to comply with DSEAR. DSEAR: Controlling Dust Explosion Risks is for managers and supervisors of process plant and operations, where dangerous substances are used or stored. It's also aimed at safety specialists who need to understand how to manage the risks from dangerous substances within the framework of the DSEAR duties. The course is intended to allow them to act as an intelligent customer when commissioning work related to DSEAR.
