Health and safety law poster – what you need to know

law poster on workplace wall

The poster explains British health and safety laws and lists what workers and their employers should do.

If you employ anyone, you must either:

  • display the health and safety law poster where your workers can easily read it
  • provide each worker with the equivalent health and safety law leaflet

There are various versions of the poster, so you can select the most appropriate for your business. You can:

HSE also provides health and safety law pocket cards. These are a legal alternative to the law poster and are easy to distribute for your employees to carry with them.

Freight containers – potential worker exposure

HSE has published a research report looking at potential worker exposure to hazardous atmospheres at ports and distribution centres.

HSE carried out the research which involved visits to six ports and two distribution centres by our scientists.

The report found that port and distribution workers who open or enter freight containers could be exposed to dangerously low oxygen levels or to hazardous substances in the air which have built up as a result of limited ventilation while they are sealed.

Our downloadable leaflet Safe Work in Confined Spaces, helps you to assess the risk of working within a particular confined space and put precautions in place for the work to be carried out safely.
