Effective process safety management is of vital importance in major hazard industries. It helps to prevent catastrophic accidents and near misses associated with loss of containment of energy or dangerous substances. Process risks that are effectively controlled also help to optimise business efficiency, reduce downtime and protect people and assets, as well as business reputation. Developed jointly by NEBOSH and HSE, the Certificate in Process Safety Management is aimed at those who are not process safety specialists, but would benefit from a broad understanding of the accepted principles and recognised industrial practices for the management of process risk. Delegates will be provided with information that will help them to: - understand process safety management to ensure that they can contribute to the effective management of process safety risks;
- be able to describe the main elements of a process safety management system and why each element is important;
- have an appreciation of how to establish process safety management systems and the performance standards for safety critical systems and equipment; and
- understand hazards and controls for chemical reactions, bulk storage of dangerous substances, fire and explosion.
