Electric Car 2

Last week Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced it is investing hundreds of millions of pounds to build a range of electric vehicles in the Midlands. The battery technology required to power these vehicles needs to be safe and that's where HSE Bespoke Research and Consultancy is playing a pivotal role.

Our Centre for Energy Innovation, in a consortium with JLR, Denchi Power, 3M, Potenza, Lifeline, Tri-Wall and the University of Warwick, has just secured funding from the Government's Faraday programme to support important new research to improve the safety of batteries for use in electric vehicles and as stationary power sources. The funding was provided through the Government's modern industrial strategy by UK Research and Innovation.

Project LIBRIS seeks to improve understanding of the range of potential causes of 'thermal runaway' (TR) events in individual battery cells and through scaling up tests and scientific understanding, develop better computational models for assessing the spread of TR within battery packs.

Read more about the project in our news item.

If you would like to know more about our battery safety capabilty or how HSE Bespoke Research and Consultancy could help with the safe introduction of similar technologies, please contact Stuart Hawksworth.

New Event - Innovation in Battery Technology - First Announcement

HSE Training and Events will be hosting 'Innovation in Battery Technology – Safely Enabling the Industrial Strategy' in November 2019. This one-day event brings together industry, academia, government and regulators to share knowledge, experience and insight into current lithium ion battery safety research and to discuss how the latest evidence base can be used to overcome the health and safety challenges of innovating and regulating this growing area of technology.

For speaking or sponsorship opportunities or to register your interest, please contact Samantha Derbyshire.
