HSE is to run a 2 day course: 'Layers of Protection Analysis: Practical Application and Pitfalls (LOPA)' at its Science and Research Centre near Buxton, Derbyshire on Weds 11 - Thurs 12 September 2019. It will be presented by Dr Colin Chambers CEng MIET, a member of the Process Safety Leadership Group (PSLG) that developed the PSLG LOPA guidance. Dr Chambers was part of the CA team charged with assessing post-Buncefield LOPA studies. This course will draw on the PSLG LOPA guidance, explain its relevance to LOPA assessment in general, and highlight pitfalls identified during the assessment of a large number of LOPA studies from the petrochemical industry. 'LOPA: Practical Applications and Pitfalls' is aimed at engineers, managers and safety professionals who have a basic knowledge of risk assessment who want to gain an understanding of the LOPA method, its application and the pitfalls commonly associated with this type of analysis.
